ARTS + INDUSTRY
“Dear Dr. Ferns,
My name is Kenya (Robinson). I’m a conceptual artist and currently work as an automotive technician. I’m reaching out to see if you might have 30–45 minutes to meet with me about an Arts + Industry curriculum I’ve been developing for Santa Fe College.
The proposed program creates a bridge between Fine Arts and Career & Technical Education, combining a Fine Arts foundation with concentrations such as automotive technology, welding, advanced manufacturing, construction, and entertainment technology, along with internship/apprenticeship experience.
The idea grows from my own movement between contemporary art and automotive work, as well as my experience with the John Michael Kohler Arts Center’s Arts/Industry residency, and recent graduation from the Automotive Technology Program at Santa Fe College. Given Santa Fe’s existing strengths in both Fine Arts and CTE, I’d love to share the proposal, hear your perspective, and discuss whether it might have a place at the college.
